If you’ve ever dealt with glass annealing, you know the struggle. You need those temperature gradients to be spot on, or you’re dealing with internal stress and broken product. The problem? Old-school convection ovens are slow. They have this annoying thermal lag that just drags down your entire throughput. That’s why we use shortwave infrared (IR) lamps. Instead of wasting time heating up all the air in the room, these lamps shoot energy straight into the glass. It’s immediate. You want more heat? You get it right now.
Speed is everything
Standard heaters take forever to hit their target. We’re talking minutes. But these IR lamps? They hit peak power in milliseconds. When your production line is humming along at a fixed speed, you can’t just hit “pause” because your heater is lagging. You need to be able to tweak the heat profile on the fly—especially when you switch between different glass thicknesses—without stopping the belt. It just makes the whole process feel smoother.
The catch: Heat vs. Cooling
Now, here’s the thing. These high-wattage tubes pack a massive punch. That’s exactly what makes online annealing work, but it comes with a trade-off. All that concentrated energy puts a lot of stress on the lamp housings. If you skimp on your cooling fans or heat sinks, you’re asking for trouble. Without enough airflow, the ends of the lamps overheat and the filaments burn out way too soon. Trust me, you don’t want to be replacing bulbs every other week because of bad airflow.
Keeping things simple
We didn’t want these lamps to be a headache to maintain. We designed them for quick swaps. Since we use standardized connectors, you can pull a dead lamp and plug in a new one in a couple of minutes. No fancy tools, no long downtime. Just swap and go. At the end of the day, shortwave IR is the only way to keep your thermal window tight while keeping the belt moving. You get the precision of a batch furnace but with the speed of a conveyor. Just a quick tip: make sure your PID controllers are tuned for that fast response time. If they’re too slow, you’ll overshoot your target temperature, and that’s a mess nobody wants to clean up.
