
How We Built the Instant-Heat Mirror Heater
Ever stepped out of a steaming shower into a freezing bathroom? It’s the worst. That’s why we built these mirror heaters. Most heaters try to warm up the whole room, which takes forever. We did something different. We used shortwave infrared technology—basically quartz tubes filled with halogen gas—that sends heat straight to you. It doesn’t waste time warming the air. You flip the switch, and you feel the heat in seconds. The secret is in the physics. We packed a lot of power into a tiny space. The lamps shoot out photons that go right through your clothes and into your skin. It’s that “instant glow” feeling you get from the sun. To make sure none of that warmth is wasted, we put a mirrored reflector behind the tube. Instead of the heat soaking into your bathroom wall, it gets bounced forward, right where you need it. Built for the steam Bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. They’re damp, humid, and unpredictable. We chose high-purity quartz for the tubes for a very specific reason: thermal shock. If a stray drop of cold water hits a red-hot piece of cheap glass, it shatters. Quartz just handles it. Then there’s the wiring. We used heavy-duty, heat-resistant cables and tight seals so the thing doesn’t short out when the room gets steamy. One quick tip: these pull a lot of power the moment they kick on. Just make sure your circuit breaker can handle that initial surge so you aren’t left in the dark. Setting it up These usually slide right into standard mirror frames, which makes installation a breeze. Now, there is one trade-off. Because the heat is so focused, it’s directional. If you step out of the “beam,” you’ll feel the chill again. It’s the price you pay for that instant warmth. To get the most out of it, we suggest tilting the heater down at about a 15-degree angle. That way, it covers your whole body while you’re getting dressed.
