
Why Warm Mirrors are a Lifesaver in Cold Bathrooms
Ever stepped into a bathroom changing area and felt that immediate chill? Between the cold tiles and the drafty vents, it’s usually a miserable experience. We found a way to fix that by hiding shortwave infrared heaters right inside the mirror. Most heaters just try to warm up the air, which takes forever and usually fails in a drafty room. Our setup is different. It beams heat directly onto you. You don’t have to wait for the room to warm up—you feel the heat the second you step in front of the glass.
How the magic happens
We use quartz halogen tubes to get that instant warmth. Instead of relying on air currents, these lamps send out radiation that travels at the speed of light. It hits your skin and warms you up immediately. Now, you might wonder if the heat cracks the mirror. We’ve handled that. We use specific heat-shielding gaskets and offset the emitters so the glass stays safe and doesn’t warp from the temperature jump.
The nitty-gritty stuff
To make this work in such a tight space, we use R7s or Sk15 connectors. They’re sturdy and can handle a lot of power without needing a massive footprint. We chose quartz for the envelopes because it lets the IR radiation pass through easily. Plus, it’s tough. It can handle being turned on and off all day without wearing out.
A few things to keep in mind
Here’s the catch: these lamps pull a lot of power. You’ll need to make sure your wiring and circuit breakers can handle the initial surge, or you’re going to be tripping switches. Also, don’t go overboard. If you cram too many emitters into one frame, the mounting brackets can get way too hot. To keep everything running smoothly, we suggest a dedicated thermal controller. It stops the lamps from burning out if they’re left on too long. And please, make sure there’s some breathing room behind the mirror. If the air can’t move, the electronics will fry.
